Bucktown beauty

I have been quiety in search of a Chicago designer who has a style I can sink my teeth into. Something eclectic, but luxurious.

While wandering around Bucktown today, the storefront of Jean Alan stopped me in my loafers. Click above to see some of her fabulous projects.

"Urban Condominium" is my favorite. Rich brown- and blue-gray walls. Claret runners underfoot. Leather lounging chairs. Gilded accents. Classic oil paintings, and bold black-and-white photography. Unexpected modern pieces.

Love. Love. Love.

Tyler's ultimate kitchen

I've been watching an inexcusable amount of Food Network lately, and while Ina's food makes me the most hungry, it's Tyler Florence's kitchen that I want.

The look is functional and comfortable, but somehow also rustic and sleek. When I one day get to design my own kitchen, it will include his signature subway tile backsplash and copper pots.

Above, find photos of Florence's San Francisco home, which sports the same features, though the tile is of a different shade.

To see the green-and-bronze heaven of Tyler's Ultimate in action, check out the videos online at http://www.foodnetwork.com/tylers-ultimate/index.html.

Tiles with style

I love the little tiles being sold at Hanger 18 at 4726 N. Lincoln Ave. in Lincoln Square. Birds, butterfies and flowers, perfect for a quirky kitchen or child's room.

Hanger 18 has tons of other fun stuff, particularly for the kitchen. Plates, aprons and other accessories feature bold patterns that reference retro, but pop in the present.
